The Readily Available Alloy for Severe Service
ToughMet copper nickel tin alloy is an excellent alternative to nickel alloys, providing many of the same material properties – without the high cost or long lead times.
The use of Toughmet is growing rapidly in many industries. In addition to solving many design problems, designers are finding that ToughMet will replace many hard-to-find, expensive, and difficult to machine alloys (depending on environment).
ToughMet advantages:
- High strength
- Improved strain tolerance (fatigue life)
- Excellent machinability (lower component cost)
- Very low weight loss corrosion in sour environments
- Resistant to sea water and brine corrosion
- Resistant to amine-based fluid corrosion
- Lower friction in contact with other metals
- Resistant to galling and scuffing
- Much higher fracture toughness than other high strength copper alloys
- Non-magnetic behavior
ToughMet is replacing some of these hard-to-find alloys
